Get it.

Much like many of the members of Awkward Silence, this blog page needs a little more action. Wait, who am I kidding—AwkSi is only comprised of ridiculously good looking, charming individuals who will make you laugh, swoon, and cum in whatever order you prefer. They were even voted “Most Attractive Improv Team at USF”, so there you go.

Here’s something else that will arouse you:

Educational and not creepy at all. Just my cup of tea.

Also, meet our newest team member. USF told us we weren't diverse enough to become a real club so he is here to represent every minority possible—social justice prevails! If you can identify all of the cultures/stereotypes he represents, you win a zillion somethings, to be determined.

I aim to give this blog the attention it deserves, so stay tuned and stay uncomfortable for random tidbits coming your way.

Uncomfortable Realizations

I turned 20 last month and ever since then I feel like I have entered a new phase of self-actualization. Or maybe "entered" isn't the right word, because it's more like I forced myself into it. I had a talk with myself that went something like this, "Self, you are now 20. It's time to be a real person. Man up."

Anyway, I decided to assess the things in my life that I have unhealthy addictions to or just unacceptable behaviors for an adult and the list was way way too long. The first one, and possibly the most time consuming one, is my addiction to craigslist. I decided to dedicate a whole post of my personal blog to this addiction, so you can check that out here: My Craigslist Addiction

But other than craigslist, I have found a whole variety of other behaviors that I need to get in CHECK.

1. I can't go a day without texting. I keep trying and failing really hard. I can barely even go 3-4 hours without sending a text. I text in class even though I think it's RUDE but I try to conditionalize it by saying things like "oh, but I really NEED to tell him/her this" or "this part of class isn't THAT important." But really, I should just accept the face that I am one of those kids that is rude and texts in class and need to CLEAN UP MY ACT. Until then I will be saddled with guilt.

2. I still call my mom when I have problems even if there is no way she could ever help fix them. Like, "Hey mom... my bank account wont let me withdraw money, HELP ME!!" No, I don't actually need her help. I know how to fix this situation.  CALL THE DAMN BANK NOT YOUR MOM, LAURA. or, "Mom, my throat hurts and I feel sick and I have a fever...." Ok, but what could my mom really do about this? Nothing. Normally I realize this halfway through explaining my sickness and then just make an excuse to hang up so that I feel like less of an adult failure.

3. I wont buy new underwear. This is probably the most awkward habit that I have. I am still wearing underwear that I KNOW I bought in 8th grade. How do I know this? They are from Merveyns (Sp???). And that store definitely went out of business about 4 years ago. Slash I stopped shopping there when my mom stopped buying me clothes. And that was definitely before high school. *sigh* So I have this routine where after I do my laundry I assess which underwear is acceptable to wear in a situation when SOMEBODY ELSE might SEE it. Then I make piles of "me only" underwear and "other people acceptable" underwear. If days of the week are written on them, then they are defaulted to the me pile. If there is any form of lace on them, they go into the other people pile. Get it? But really, the "me only" pile is getting a little too big. So I need to prioritize, throw away some undies, stop spending all of my money on Best of Thai, and invest in some new underwear STAT.

That is all for now. I hope you feel uncomfortable.

Upcoming Shows!

Hey Awkward Fans! Thanks so much for coming out to our show last night at Hayes Healy Residence Hall! Awkward Silence is about to get awkwardly busy for the next month-- so you have many many opportunities to come out to a show and laugh away all of your end-of-the-semester stress.

Most importantly-- Our next show is Saturday, April 23 at 10pm at the Dark Room in The Mission (2263 Mission St). We will be performing with the always amazing Hobofish!

Also, stay tuned for more information about our show on dead day (the day between the end of the semester and the start of finals)!

learn to awkward dance.

This is the Awkward Dance

It was coined by Sarah Wells in 2010 and used in this movie. Copyright infringements result in a painful death by hanging. Sooooo indulge but don't make eye contact...it's rule number 1 of the awkward dance. Also, NEVER be on beat.

Love,
Lizzie

Shows, Shows, Shows

Oh, Hello. Welcome to 2011. I hope all of your Januaries are starting off with an appropriate level of awkwardness. Maybe you threw up on a stranger's shoes at a bar, or your vibrator set off the metal detector in the security line at the airport, or you told a girl that you like her and she said "I like being friends, too." But that's enough about MY January. What really matters is when Awkward Silence will be performing again.

Let happiness abound because we already have two shows dates in February! Thursday, February 3rd we will be COMPETING against another improv team at a venue in SOMA (9th St. at Minna). Both teams will do a short set and the audience votes on the winner. That means you have to come to the show because we need your votes.

More info to come, but be sure to keep Feb. 3rd clear.

Our next on-campus show is Friday Feb. 11 at 9pm (subject to time change). We are hoping for studio theater again, but if performing arts poops on us then we will have to schedule a different room! Look for Facebook invites!
